DRAFTING W/ ALIA SHAWKAT
Alia Shawkat orbits the mainstream without ever fully settling into it. In 2025, her work continued to lean toward the bold and strange — most notably with Atropia, a war satire directed by Hailey Gates, in which Shawkat plays Fayruz, an aspiring actress working at a U.S. military role-playing facility as she navigates absurd training exercises and a complicated romance.
This year, she also moved into lighter, looser territory with The Wrong Girls, Dylan Meyer’s directorial debut. Dubbed a “stoner girl comedy” by co-star Kristen Stewart, the film will follow the life of co-dependent best friends, from bong rip to bong rip.
Though she’s best known for her on-camera work, Shawkat has maintained a parallel pursuit as a visual artist. For DRAFTING, she shared works from that practice — drawings, paintings and developing ideas that shape how she thinks across mediums.
