DRAFTING W/ KATARINA ZHU
After a run of short films like Silver Lake Cleaners and Shrub, Katarina Zhu takes on her biggest project yet with Bunnylovr — a feature she wrote, directed and stars in. Now in theaters nationwide, the indie follows Rebecca (Zhu), a cam girl navigating a toxic client relationship while reconnecting with her estranged father as he faces a terminal illness.
At its core, Bunnylovr is about living in the “digital age,” as Zhu told Sundance, zeroing in on Rebecca’s “relationships with the men in her life and how she is ultimately able to find a sense of agency.” She’s supported by her best friend Bella, played by Rachel Sennott, who’s been close friends with Zhu since they were 18.
For DRAFTING, Zhu gives us a peek inside her Bunnylovr creative process and what keeps her entertained in-between projects.

My dream, which will become a reality, is to remake Fool for Love in my vision.
The meme says it all, I think.
I’m trying to be as unedited and honest as possible, per the instructions. The only reason I know what a 2hollis song sounds like is because this TikTok musician baileyrpmusic, who I have a crush, on covered “whiplash.” (The most Gen-Z sentence ever written.)
$750 for a piece of paper feels quite frivolous, but I really, really, really want it. If anyone wants to buy it for me…
Who else can relate to setting a reminder on their phone that goes off every four hours to check The RealReal for an item of clothing that they’ve been sickeningly fixated on for years to see if it’s back in stock? Very normal, non-pathological behavior. Please no one else buy it.
People make it seem like lowering your screen time and getting off your phone is so much more difficult than it actually is, I think. But our minds are so much more powerful than the phone is all I’m saying. This is nothing, pre-pandemic used to be like 45 minutes a day.
Testing something for my movie Bunnylovr that ended up getting cut because I couldn’t produce the necessary amount of tears on the day.
