DRAFTING W/ KAY POYER
People can’t stop clicking on all things Kay Poyer — maybe because she leaves nothing offline (lucky for us). The Dallas-based content creator has built a devoted fanbase with her raw, unfiltered glimpses into everyday life. Better known as @ladymisskay_, Poyer’s millions of followers flock to her blunt videos about everything from hormones and sex to pop stars and club culture.
Her Substack, The Quiet Part, is where she writes just as candidly — “however unkempt it may be.” A self-declared “oracle,” Poyer has what her comments section lovingly calls a “vast mind,” wrapping sharp commentary in humor that’s equal parts cutting and clever. This is a corner of the internet you actually want to be.
For DRAFTING, Poyer unlocks her phone and lets us peek at texts from a fizzled love affair, a voicemail from a former employer and the oldest photo she’s saved. Add her favorite horror films to your must-watch list and dive into an unfinished essay — it’s all part of what fuels Poyer’s creative process.
Added to my sleeve, thanks Conner! I only get flash, never customs.
Essence, Eris and I on the beanbag at Veronica’s house. An intimate afterparty with the DJ’s and hosts of Affairs. I needed some powder and dry shampoo badly.
Me and my mother (now departed) at Disneyland. That’s Michelle behind her.
I am psychotic, nocturnal and unable to adhere to a fixed schedule. I have alarms for roughly every 15 minutes of the day, yet I continue to make new ones.
Dave & Michelle — an essay about my grandparents — grandfather on my dad’s side, grandmother on my mother’s side. Never finished because I was swept up in a breakup and decided to write about that instead.
Sorely underdressed for a vintage Cavalli drop party at some vintage studio. Lot lizard realness.
I agreed to cover some shifts at my last job just before getting on the Rolling Stone list. I worked one shift and had to bail on all the rest for bookings. Oh well!
This list is incredibly extensive, so I’ll only provide a sneak peek. Red Rooms is my most recent addition.
Texts with a boy I really like. We made it to three dates, but circumstances became roadblocks. How unfortunate.
I listen to genres based on what I’m doing, and I’ve been partying and late night driving a lot lately.
A reflection on my weekend turned week and a half in Chicago, and what I learned there about family, sex, and techno and house music. I feverishly worked on this piece until it was ready.

Love this so much! Pleeaasee do a drafting w/ Jennifer Beals next!
Gorgeous 🥰
