THE DRAFT: 5 PERFECT THINGS FROM DE'WAYNE
THE DRAFT is RUN-A-MUCK’s Friday list of everything we think is perfect — the shows we binged, the songs on repeat, the objects we’d never redesign, the ideas and experiences that don’t need improving. This is culture without revision — no edits, no notes.
Houston-born DE’WAYNE is already catching the attention of music’s most iconic names. The genre-defying rock artist’s single “highway robbery,” from his 2025 album June, was recently reworked by none other than Lenny Kravitz. He clearly knows great music — here’s everything else he thinks is perfect.
[01] THE LOCAL PEASANT SMASH BURGER
This is my go-to spot by the crib for so many reasons. The bartenders are amazing and the chefs absolutely throw down on the smash burger. It’s spicy as hell in the best way possible. I go one or two times a week, throw my headphones on and just enjoy the energy at the spot. I’ve taken so many friends there and every single one approves.
[02] MY BLACK AND WHITE CROCHET HAT
Literally a three dollar purchase that sat in my closet for six months. Then one day I just vibed on my original instinct and wore it. Somehow, it became a staple. Not that it matters, but the older ladies love this hat, which honestly makes me really happy. I’ll probably hunt for more colorways before the tour, but for now this one’s doing the job perfectly.
[03] THE WILL TO CHANGE BY BELL HOOKS
This book absolutely destroyed me and rebuilt me at the same time. It genuinely changed my life. If you’re really paying attention to the human experience, it’s obvious a lot has to change for us to move forward in a healthier way. Bell Hooks explores masculinity with so much honesty and compassion. It’s one of the most important books I’ve ever read.
[04] ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD by QUENTIN TARANTINO
Perfect movie, truly 10/10. I’ve always been obsessed with Hollywood lore, honestly. That’s part of the reason I ended up here. As a kid, I believed if I could just make it to this magical place I saw on TV, somehow my dreams could happen. This movie captures that feeling perfectly. The acting is unreal. Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio are incredible. I’ve seen it 22 times and somehow it gets better with every watch.
[05] “FLY AWAY” BY LENNY KRAVITZ
Come on now. You can put this song on at literally any moment in life and instantly feel like every obstacle in front of you has no chance. To me, that’s what music is supposed to do. Encourage people, free people, enlighten people. This song carries all of that energy for me, so it had to make the list.
Justin Moran is a creative director and the editor of DRAFTING W/ RUN-A-MUCK. He knows perfect culture — here’s everything else he thinks is perfect:
[01] LISA RINNA IN MISS CLAIRE SULLIVAN
Lisa Rinna will use any excuse to turn a look, and this week that occasion was the world premiere of Stop! That! Train!. She wore an icy blue deconstructed dress — complete with an oversized ribbon, as if to self-declare: I’m a winner. Miss Claire Sullivan, the New York designer behind some of pop culture’s most defining recent fashion moments, is responsible for the look — and deserving of a ribbon herself. She calls it Derby Debutant.
[02] BIKE RIDES AROUND PROSPECT PARK
Summer is here, and there’s no other place in New York where you can bike without worrying about weaving in and out of cars, dodging delivery men riding the wrong way down a one-way or pedestrians doomscrolling directly into your path. At Prospect Park, you can do loops with your headphones on and completely turn off your mind for an hour. I’ve been revisiting Wild Things by Ladyhawke (remember “Paris Is Burning”?), and somehow it sounds even better nearly a decade later.
[03] MEG STALTER, POP STAR
Meg Stalter’s comedic tour as a bitchy pop star archetype — and self-proclaimed “Prettiest Girl in America” — has been genuine perfection. Addison Rae is shaking.
[04] “THAT FAR” BY FAUX REAL
Faux Real just announced their new album, Poison Time, as the follow-up to 2024’s debut, Faux Ever. The first single from brothers Elliott and Virgile Arndt is “That Far,” paired with a self-directed music video that brings their campy art-pop vision fully to life. Complete with choreography, matching looks and a flair for drama, Faux Real thankfully takes their creativity that far.
[05] FORBIDDEN FRUIT BY PFEIFER & KREUTZER
If the algorithm is a reflection of our desires and interests, this artwork that recently stumbled onto my feed captures mine perfectly. German artists Pfeifer & Kreutzer shot a MacBook 12 times for a piece called Forbidden Fruit. I’m not entirely sure what they meant by it, but I know exactly why it resonates with me.
